Cybersecurity Startup 1Kosmos Emerged from Stealth Mode

Funding

This week, cybersecurity start-up 1Kosmos emerged from stealth mode armed with $15 million in ForgePoint Capital’s Series A financing to gain momentum with its digital identity and legitimate solutions.

The Somerset, NJ-based company has developed a framework to allow passwordless authentication that leverages biometrics and a private blockchain.

The company describes that its “ID-proofing process” uses user-uploaded identification keys, backed by the use of biometrics to guarantee the identity of the user accessing systems, while storing encrypted user data in a private blockchain that is approved.

Although the name of the organization can sound a little quirky, 1Kosmos is solving a serious problem and has employed a number of former high-profile government officials to work on its advisory board, including former NSA Director Mike McConnell; former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen; former NSA Security and Counterintelligence Director Kemp Ensor, and many others.

Centered in Somerset, New Jersey, the company has production offices in Mumbai, India.

The investment in 1Kosmos by ForgePoint is one of many transactions revealed during the past week by the cybersecurity investment giant, which also included investments in SPHERE, WireWheel and Strata Identity.
