NW Ohio Dental Center feels the ransomware attack on IT vendor

The Toledo Dental Center of Northwest Ohio has revealed that a ransomware attack on its local third – party IT vendor may pose a threat to personal data from current and former patients and employees.

Arakyta, the IT vendor, informed the healthcare provider about the possible breaches around September. On December 1, 2018, the health care provider said on Press releases.

“Based on Arakyta ‘s information on Nov. 7, 2018, the Dental Center confirmed that systems containing information about the Dental Center could be accessed by an unknown actor, ” the release states. While there was no evidence of unauthorized access or misuse of personal information, the Dental Center nevertheless concluded that it was necessary to notify individuals who might be affected.

In response to the incident, the Dental Center said that it had initiated an investigation and provided free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, as well as ” taking steps to implement additional safeguards and to review data privacy and security policies and procedures. “
